5 Skin Tips That Have Nothing to Do With Your Skincare Products

When dealing with skin care we are usually quick to find ways to deal with our beauty needs on the surface, but there’s a lot going on under your skin that needs attention too! Here are five below-the-surface skin tips for healthier skin.

  1. Beauty Sleep

Probably the most fun out of the five tips, getting enough sleep is a key part to your skincare regime. Seven to nine hours of sleep will help your body rejuvenate itself. Some of the things it will accomplish is create more collagen (prevents wrinkles) and increased blood flow to your skin.

  1. Exercise

Another way to increase your blood circulation is through exercise. This will also help get oxygen and nutrients to your skin. It also helps your Cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress-hormone which can cause the collagen in your skin to break down. Exercise keeps the levels of the hormone in check so your skin looks vibrant, healthy and your stress levels stay down.

  1. 8x8

No, math is not going to help your skin here but eight glasses of water should! 8x8 is an easy way to remember how much water a day you should be drinking. Eight, eight ounce glasses of water is good for your health and great for your skin. It helps remove toxins. If you’ve got dry skin, drinking water can bring more moisture to it.

  1. Quit Smoking

If you were looking for motivation to stop smoking, add clearer skin to your list! Smoking causes the blood vessels at the top-most part of your skin to narrow. This narrowing restricts the amount of oxygen that can get to your skin which uses up the nutrients your skin needs - both of which make your skin look older and contribute to wrinkles.

  1. You Are What You Eat

Your skin will reflect your inward health so eat right! Eat whole foods and foods high in antioxidants (more wrinkle prevention), Omega-3, Vitamin A and E.
