THE DISH ON FREE RADICALS, ANTIOXIDANTS, AND GETTING A HEAD START ON PREVENTING AGING

This week's #worththebuzz question comes from a True Moringa user in Anaheim, CA, but we know many of you have had the same passing thought:

"I'M ALWAYS HEARING ABOUT ANTIOXIDANTS AS A MARKETING CLAIM FOR HEALTHY FOOD AND HEALTHY BEAUTY - BUT WHAT DO THEY ACTUALLY DO?" - JILL, ANAHEIM, CA

Great question!

Internally, aging is caused by free radicals, generated from external factors like long exposure to UV light, the metabolism of oxygen, and the presence of pollutants in the environment. Because they contain an unpaired election, they are highly unstable so they seek electrons from healthy skin cells. When they attack those cells and cause damage, it leads to inflammation and the destruction of collagen. This is a big factor in why skin loses elasticity and gains wrinkles and hyper pigmentation. or the same reason we age, a lot of the skin inflammation we feel is a cause of the free radicals generated by the environment we live in that damages our skin cells.

We can fight aging through antioxidants, which protect our cells by trapping free radicals and breaking them down before they can do any damage.
